Cricket: Tresco & Bryher v St Martin’s

st martins cricket pitch sign 2Report by Colin Daly

Sunday dawned as a day that did not look as though it would live up to the fine weather forecast, but it continued to improve all day and an enjoyable 25 over match took place when Tresco/Bryher visited St. Martin’s.

Tresco won the toss and chose to bat first. They soon began to pile up the runs with captain John Taylor leading from the front with an eventual total of 84 before being caught behind.

M. Charlton added a useful 36 to set a target of 163 for the home team.

To the “music” of the game – the waves crashing on the shore just over the dune – J. Smith led the batting for St. Martin’s with 56 and a run race ensued with James Morton adding 24.

But the run rate was always a little behind and they needed 18 off the last three balls only to be all out just short.

The Sevenstones wagon collected the players and whisked them off for post match analysis as the sun made sure this took place outside on the terrace whilst enjoying the traditional hospitality.
