Shipping Movements This Weekend 7th And 8th June 2014

This note has been sent to Radio Scilly and Scilly Today from Dale Clark, St Mary’s Harbourmaster.

River Trader did not manage to unload the cargo of aggregate for the airport runway and road works last night (Thursday) and will return alongside on Saturday after the Scillonian III has departed.

This evening (Friday) Lagan staff will be on-board River Trader, at the anchorage position, moving the remaining 100 tonnes of cargo into the centre of the ship’s hold to reduce the amount of time required on Saturday evening.

The end of the quay will be out of bounds to the public when the discharge operation is taking place. The French port of Granville is closed next week due to maintenance works and we do not expect to see the vessel return until next weekend at the earliest.

The harbour staff are expecting the landing craft Arromanches this weekend to head to Rechabite slip with a cargo of bitumen.

The Scillonian III will continue her normal schedule as will the Gry Maritha. Collection of goods from the Gry Maritha will happen as normal however please do not bring vehicles onto the quay if they are not being loaded immediately – there is no parking space available for vans to wait to be loaded!

On Monday, asbestos removal firm Shield will be onsite to remove any asbestos from the first floor of the Harbourside building (inside & out). The removal area will be from the first floor of the building only and will be completely “sealed in” by Shield.

There is absolutely no risk to pedestrians or anyone using the quay during this removal process.

The Harbourside building refurbishment continues this weekend. From Monday, Blackwell Building Services will be concentrating on the ground floor over the next 2 weeks due to the asbestos removal firm being on site. This will include stripping out the ground floor stores including the off island storage room.

We are waiting to take delivery of temporary storage sheds for off island drop off items which should arrive on Wednesdays Gry visit. Until the sheds arrive, off island residents with items to collect/drop off should use the waiting room

Cruise ships Serenissima (10th June staying overnight again) and Minerva (13th) are expected to visit the Islands next week.
