New Porthloo Slipway Nearing Completion

porthloo boat park work 2014St Mary’s Harbourmaster says the new Porthloo slipway should be complete by mid June, despite a slight delay to the project.

Dale Clark says the base and side of the structure have been formed.

The contractors, KML, will now lay the steelwork and pour the concrete for the top deck.

The project had had strict time limits for completion because of the tourist season, but Dale says the poor weather this winter, together with a number of other factors, has knocked the schedule back.

KML will be writing to the Council for an extension to their planning permission.

Once the slipway is completed, there’ll then be some cosmetic work levelling and landscaping the boat park itself.

Dale says the new 10m wide slip will make a massive difference for boat owners and could be used in future for landing craft bringing larger supplies and machinery to the islands.

These currently have to use Porthmellon Beach or the Rechabite Slip.

Where does all this machinery go once ashore? past the duck pond? (narrow and collapsing) or up Seaways hill (steep and narrow)? Fantastic leap…backwards. Part of the thinking for a ten metre wide slip is not for local boats but to allow for Wind farm construction items so that’s next here to ruin the place…. more! You are killing what Scilly was and why people came.
