St Martin’s ‘Drought’ Set To End Tomorrow

Seven Stones Inn signSt Martin’s will have a pub again from 11am tomorrow.

The Seven Stones Inn will be opening at lunchtime and its new owners say it will trade all year-round.

Landlady Emily Crees views the pub as a “community service” and says that the opening hours should reflect that, although there will be reduced times in winter.

The island’s only pub has been closed since July 2012, although the Seven Stones did provide a barbeque for island rowers over Gig Weekend earlier this month.

It’s the first time that Emily and husband Dominic have run their own licensed premises. But they’ve worked in hospitality before moving to the island from Sussex last autumn.

Emily says she’s excited by the prospect of opening the pub.

She believes the biggest surprise for regulars will be the new inglenook fireplace and the interior refurbishment.

Dom has undertaken much of the upgrades, often working until after midnight.

Emily says she’s been surprised at the amount of paperwork required in starting a new business, but the pair have been motivated by the level of support from the community and social media, which Emily says has been “morale lifting.”

I visited the pub today and was impressed, a warm welcome and a vast improvement on recent times, stunning views, in fact on a day like today, sun, flat clam sea and a low tide, probably the best view from any pub on the islands
I wish the new family every success,

I hope the opening night was a success! Just need the hotel to reopen and then St. Martins will thrive again.

We will certainly visit when we are there in August. We’ve missed visiting the pub with the fantastic view each time we’ve been on St Martins over the past couple of years.

Great news – best of luck to them both. I am sure that like me all the other long-time St Martin’s campers will, no doubt, help to ensure they are successful.
