Rotary Club Preparing For Bank Holiday Fun Day

rotary funday aug 2011St Mary’s Rotary Club are hoping that good weather will help them raise thousands for their good causes, with their biggest fundraiser of the year on Monday.

The annual Bank Holiday Fun Day on Holgate’s Green starts at 12noon.

As well as the bouncy castle, barbeque, dancing, food and a host of stalls, there’ll be the popular chicken-racing event.

Organiser Richard Chiverton says he’ll use five birds this year and they will be blonde and brunette! For the first time, the chickens will be dyed.

Richard says there’s always some excitement during this event because you never know what a chicken will do.

There are still a couple of gigs on the green but Richard says he’ll work around that.

This year, some of the cash will be used to fund the local team taking furniture donated by the Council from the former school site at Carn Thomas to schools in Romania.

And Richard says he’s keen to introduce some extra events to refresh the fun day for next year.

He’s thinking about restarting an old favourite – the lady in a bed game. That’s when participants hit a target and a woman suspended in a bed falls out of it!
