Hospital Trust To Continue Islands-Based Midwife Service

hospital nhs sign 2The Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust says they’re committed to keeping a midwife position based on the islands.

Earlier this spring, the Scilly’s Healthwatch asked residents for their views on future midwifery provision here.

It followed the announcement by current midwife Annie Oldham that she’ll be retiring at the end of this month.

Some locals took to social media to express their opinion that mums-to-be should be supported by the same nurse throughout their pregnancy.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman for RCHT said they have started recruitment for an islands-based position.

Carol Clarke of Healthwatch says she’s pleased that they are keeping the position.

She says Helathwatch had some well articulated feedback about how much people appreciate the current level of service and that was passed on to RCHT.

The new post has been advertised and Carol says there will be island-based cover provided in the interim.
