Plans To Make Better Use Of Mermaid Car Park

wesleyan chapel 2Parking arrangements at The Mermaid Car Park are set to change so more cars can share the space.

It’s all part of an ongoing evaluation of the town’s road and parking problems launched by General Purposes Committee Chairman Steve Sims.

Steve says it’s currently a “ludicrous use of space” with vehicles ‘clumped’ in the centre.

He wants it reorganised so parking is arranged radially, on the outside, like the spokes of a wheel.

Steve says the idea has been well received by some fellow Councillors and, unlike the flower-planter parking restrictions proposed for Hugh Street, there’s no need to solicit views on the change.

The change will take place once the resurfacing work is completed.
