The One Act Play Festival is set to return for a third year this May. And there are two new writers joining the entries.

Gordon Bilsborough, a St Mary’s councillor who has authored a number of short thrillers and satires, will be writing one of this year’s plays.

And Jon McKenzie, who wrote the recent Theatre Club pantomime ‘Jack of Diamonds’, will also be throwing his hat into the ring.

They’ll be joined by scripts from old hands, Steve Sims, Maggie Perkovic and Mary Dean.

The festival is taking place on the 11th May, during Art Scilly week, and has proved popular with audiences.

Organiser Jenny Byers says it’s been a great way to get new members into the Theatre Club and has also uncovered some exciting new writing talent on the islands.

Jenny says the plays are easy to stage as the actors read from the scripts. They don’t worry about sets.

“It is more about the writing,” she says.

Professional scriptwriter, Paul Dodgson, will again judge the competition. The winning play will be decided by a combination of the marks given by Paul and those voted for by the audience.
