The 8th Walk Scilly Shows A Strong Start

Walk Scilly, the islands’ week-long walking festival, has started and it is much busier than last year. The first walk, yesterday, with Martin Hesp went out at 2.00 pm with 16 walkers and there was a lovely example of Scillonian hospitality with a local lady on the walk inviting walkers back to her house for tea!

The opening event, at St Mary’s Hall last night, had around 50 attendees hear an opening speech provided by journalist Martin Hesp.

Today’s all day walk to St. Martins heads off fully subscribed this morning with 29 walkers joining up with Keith Low on St. Martins . Also, Amanda Martin will explore the Garrison, there are still some spaces available on this walk which leaves at 10.00 from the TIC. This afternoon walk to Bryher with Darren Hart currently has 27 people booked on ( figures correct at 8.20am) there are a few spaces left, but people may need to be at the TIC early this morning to grab them.

The TIC opens at 9.00 this morning and there will be a walk scilly rep there until 5.00
