Islander Celebrating 100th Birthday This Weekend

hugh town from BuzzaThe Queen no longer sends telegrams, but friends and family intend to mark a special birthday on Saturday, as an islander celebrates her 100th birthday.

Joan Short was born Joan Woodcock at Altamira at Porthloo on the 12th April 1914.

Apart from two years during the Second World War, Joan has spent all her life on St Mary’s.

She married Cyril Short in 1940 and had two sons, Tim and Martin, and later her family grew to five grand children and six great grandchildren.
