No St George’s Day Concert For Scilly This Year

theatre town hallFor the first time in over twenty years, there’ll be no St George’s Day concert in Scilly.

The patriotic celebration of all things English, including songs and poetry readings, has been a popular fixture in the islands’ cultural calendar.

But organiser Maggie Perkovic says several factors came together to make it difficult to stage this year.

She says Truro Cathedral Choir are performing on St Mary’s on April 23rd, and she didn’t want to make people have to decide which performance to go to.

And the attendance, particularly from visitors, was also lower last year.

Maggie says it’s unfortunate but she says there are still a lot of patriotic people around who want to celebrate England’s patron saint and she’ll be wearing her badge and rose on the day.
