New Hymnbooks For St Mary’s Parish Church

If you attend Parish Church services on St Mary’s, you could be singing some new hymns soon.

The Parochial Church Council, which met last week, has agreed to spend around £2,000 on 150 new hymnbooks.

Canon Paul Miller says the old books were falling apart.  The new Common Praise books honour the past but are mindful that there are good, 21st century composers, says Paul.

They include large print editions and music scores for the organists.

Canon Miller says they can pay for the new books following a form of donation.

Organists Julia Mackenzie and Ken Christopher have waived their playing fees and that money goes into a music fund, which has been used for the purchase.

The off-island churches have already invested in newer hymnbooks recently.
