First Joint Tour For Islands’ Cricket, Football and Golf Clubs

The islands’ cricket, football and golf clubs are organising a joint tour for the first time this September.

They’ll be visiting Guernsey.

Mark Twynham said the idea was put forward by Mark Hicks at the recent cricket club AGM.

He said it seemed like a sensible suggestion, since a lot of islanders are members of more than one of the clubs. This way, they’ll save money on separate tours.

Mark says ex-Scilly resident Chris Le Frec, who now lives in Guernsey, will help them find teams of a similar standard to play while they’re there.

There are around 30 cricket teams and a similar number of football teams on the island, so Mark says there should be plenty of choice.

He’s hoping each club can get at least two matches in during the weekend.

Mark says both the football and cricket clubs have been keen to visit Guernsey for years.

Organisers are putting together details of the travel package, but say it’s likely to cost around £200 per head, which will include ferry travel to St Peter Port from Poole on Friday 5th September and back on the Monday.

Anyone who wants further information should contact Chris Evans or Eddie Williams for football, Mark Twynham, James Francis or Mark Hicks for cricket and Mark Twynham for golf.
