Scilly Features In National Newspaper April Fool

hugh town centre 3Scilly featured in a national newspaper’s April fool joke yesterday.

The Daily Mail claimed that the department store, John Lewis, was testing technology that would do away with the old fashioned measuring tape.

The chain was said to be introducing a hi-tech electronic mirror into changing rooms to scan the shape of customers and give them their precise measurements in seconds.

The Scanning Computer And Mirror (SCAM) system was being trialled at their Isles of Scilly store with a view to being rolled out around the country if successful.

Some readers picked up on the system acronym. Others posted on their online forum to point out that the retailer doesn’t have a store here.
