Scilly’s Council Launches New, Easier-To-Use Website

council website mar 2014The Council has launched a new website, which they say will make it easier for people to find the information they need.

Islanders will now be able to fill out online forms covering a range of issues from reporting a pothole to commenting on planning applications.

The original version, which was a decade old, had been criticised by councillors for being too difficult to use.

Council Chairman Amanda Martin said she had been complaining about it “for years,” while Cllr Steve Sims felt that no matter what’s done to the website, “it will be better.”

The new site cost £10,000 and has been built by Plan Alpha, one of 41 companies that tendered for the work in January.

That’s significantly less than the old site, which cost over £40,000 and a further £5,500 on maintenance each year.

The Council’s tourism site, “Simply Scilly” was handed over to the Islands’ Partnership to run last July.
