Fifteen pupils from the Five Islands School have returned from the 104th Cornwall Music Festival in Truro with a grand total of seven trophies.

Scilly’s school has been competing against their Cornish counterparts at the event at Truro’s Wesley Hall since 2005.

Overall, Scilly’s music pupils came second with their ensemble performance of music from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ a track that Music Teacher Jane Pender says was picked because it’s fun.

They also performed ‘El Condor Pasa.’

It was the fourth year that saxophonist Amy Bagnall has attended the event and she says she was happy with her grade 5 and 6 category win.

While Inca Reynolds won her grade 3 and 4 standard saxophone category after she switched her recital just days before the event.

Jane says their placing was “no mean feat” when you consider the competition. The winners were a flute band from Truro School, who had several older, more experienced players.
