Theatre Club Holding Recruitment Sessions For Summer Play

theatre town hallSt Mary’s Theatre Club are holding sessions this evening and tomorrow for anyone interested in taking part in their summer play.

Producer Kevin Leeman says they’re taking a slightly different approach this year and won’t be holding formal auditions.

Kevin says these can be quite intimidating, especially for new people who want to get involved for the first time.

Instead, he’s just keen to find people who want to tread the boards, or help out backstage, then fit a play around them.

With the 100th anniversary of the First World War this year, Kevin’s hoping to stage ‘The Accrington Pals’ by Peter Whelan, which tells the story of the men on the frontline and the women they left behind.

But he says that might be a bit ambitious with the number of actors, particularly younger men and women, needed for the cast.

If they can’t find enough people, they’ll switch to another play, says Kevin.

The sessions will be tonight and tomorrow at the Town Hall from 7pm to 9pm and Kevin says anyone who can’t make it is welcome to give him a call on 422618.
