Scilly’s New Youth Parliament Members Set Out Their Goals

youth parliamentScilly has two new Members of Youth Parliament who will represent the views of under 18s on the islands at a regional and national level.

There wasn’t the need for an election at school, as there were two candidates for the two spaces made available after Alice Chuter and Maddie Sibley ended their 2-year term of office.

12-year old Inca Reynolds lives on St Mary’s. Her manifesto promises to address a lack of places where youngsters can relax without being moved on, or being seen as antisocial in the playparks.

School pupils were consulted about a space during the Porthcressa regeneration project but the shelter was redeveloped as a Tourist Information Centre.

Inca also feels that there is potential for a recording studio on the islands, which would capture some of Scilly’s musical talent.

14-year old Zoe Jenkins already sits on the Student Forum. One of her key interests is the difficulty in finding accommodation for the Scilly students who go on to further education or training at 16 on the mainland.

The two girls will have the chance to talk with around 60 other fellow MYP’s this week at a conference in Minehead.
