Police Looking For Witnesses To Car Damage

car damage police

It’s thought that the silver Ford Escort had a key dragged down the side panels sometime on Sunday.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says the owner is understandably annoyed at finding the damage on Monday morning.

He tells Radio Scilly that it was “utterly pointless” and there is no suggestion that it was a personal attack on the owner’s property.

Know exactly what you mean ,Peter. Hope they find and prosecute culprit. Scilly needs all good publicity and not negative reports like this. Prospective visitors should understand that this sort of problem is very rare and that Scilly provides what is probably the safest environment in which to holiday , anywhere.

On a positive note. A few weeks ago the door mirror on my car was smashed off. The following day a letter, within a poly bag, was delivered to my car. The letter explained the reason for the damage (an accident), and contained an offer to cover the cost of repair. The mirror has since been repaired and the bill paid. So, there are still some honest people about.

Peter, don’t be disheartened. This kind of Yob Thick behaviour is not common on Scilly. People who reside here are from all corners of the earth. Now & then a ‘throw back’ turns up, behaves badly & eventually gets found out. Such is the advantage of living in a small community where the majority of us look out for each other.

For me, and I suspect for many other mainlanders (and Scillonians) (and I know I might be in fantasy land), so long as there is Scilly there is hope for the world: a place where an old fashioned sense of community and mutual respect and support still exists. And then I read this and my heart sinks.

That’s all right then. So it was an impersonal attack which is much, much better to experience!
