A former Chairman of Council has voiced her concern over a lack of information on the progress of airport improvement work.

The Council has sought grant funding to improve the runway and facilities at St Mary’s.

Officers have also been trying to secure European money for the Steamship Company to hard-surface the grass runway at Land’s End.

Cllr Christine Savill told Tuesday’s Planning meeting that she felt it was “regrettable” that the committee has not been updated on the timescale of the project.

All the information members were given came from a publicly issued press release, she said.

Committee Chairman Gaz O’Neill said Christine’s comments had been noted.

The £3.7million St Mary’s runway resurfacing contract includes the upgrading of airfield ground lighting, drainage and apron reconstruction.

The contract was due to commence later this month or in April.

Yesterday it was announced that the waterlogged Land’s End Runway surface means that the airport will remain closed until at least next Wednesday.
