Lantern Procession and Fireworks In Scilly On Saturday

The second Scilly lantern procession is taking place on Saturday. It is a parade of lanterns made by youngsters and their families and it is due to leave Carn Thomas at 7pm on Saturday evening. Joel Williams who is driving this project for the Council tells Radio Scilly that everyone is welcome to take part and Joel says that they will probably need some extra hands to carry the larger lanterns. Weather permitting there will be a spot of singing on Holgates Green before the parade goes through the town and around the back of the Mermaid before returning to Carn Thomas along Church Street.

If the weather conditions are favourable, Joel says they will also have some fireworks let off at approximately 8pm on Saturday , but they will only last for just a few minutes. Council of the Isles of Scilly funding has not been used to pay for them but we’re grateful to organisations that have. Joel says he would like to apologise for any disturbance caused by the parade or fireworks and ask that people let friends and neighbours who may have young children or pets know so that they’re forewarned about the potential noise.
