The Isles of Scilly has seen one of the highest take-up rates in the UK for the new NHS health screening service.

The Health Check programme was launched here last April, and it aims to prevent heart disease, strokes, diabetes and chronic kidney conditions by offering a free check up to all over 40’s, at least once every five years.

So far, around 150 locals have been invited to the Health Centre and 83% took up the offer.

That’s far higher than the 49% uptake across England and 29% in Cornwall.

There are no targets set, but the GP surgery is hoping to invite around 20% of eligible islanders each year.
