Just under a week ago the islands were being buffeted by storm force winds, which meant part of Porthcressa sea front was temporarily out-of-bounds for some locals who live there.

But the stormy Valentine’s weekend storm did not manage to disrupt the path of true love.

Just 10 feet away from the massive waves, two islanders, Martin Tomkinson and Martine King, tied the knot in the new Council Register Office.

Martin would usually be one of the Council team on call to help respond to flooding and damage to local infrastructure.

Council Director of Place Craig Dryden says to some extent they could have done with Martin’s help, but he’s pleased that the couple were able to tie the knot at 5.30pm, just when the storm was at it’s height.
