Friday and Saturday Scilly Weather Warning

The Council of the Isles of Scilly has contacted Radio Scilly with an advisory for islanders this weekend. The Met Office has forecast gale force winds and heavy rain this weekend. Friday is expected to see South Easterly winds of 45-50 mph turn to the South and South West at around mid-morning. The wind strength will increase throughout the afternoon, becoming gale force with gusts of up to 70mph by the early evening. From then until dawn on Saturday winds from the South West and West are expected to remain gale force 8 or 9 (perhaps storm force 10 at times). Gusts of up to 75mph can be expected. These winds are expected to decrease significantly throughout Saturday. Large waves are expected and care should once again be taken around the high tides as storm surges expected to be significant.
