Round Island Fog Horn Will Remain Says Trinity House

round island 2The Round Island Fog Horn will continue to sound across Scilly.

Trinity House held a consultation exercise into the future of the navigation aid between August and November.

45 local and national bodies with an interest in this station were asked for their opinion.

Trinity House says that there were few responses received, but the comments made were reviewed by the Trinity House Examiners’ Committee.

At the time the review was announced, former Ship’s Pilot, John Nichols, told Radio Scilly it would be a shame if it went.

He says with two lighthouses, Round Island and Bishop Rock, so close together, having one near a foghorn helps sailors differentiate where they are in poor visibility.

After deliberations over the responses, Trinity House has decided that the hazard warning signal will be maintained.
