weather advisory from the Council Of the Isles Of Scilly

The wind speeds are expected to increase this evening until they match those experienced on Tuesday, at around 45-60mph with gusts of anything up to 80mph. The direction of the gales is forecast to be from the South West until Saturday afternoon/evening, at which point there is expected to be a shift to the West. This will coincide with large waves around the islands. The strongest winds are expected towards midday on Saturday , right through to the early hours of Sunday. Storm surges will account for a relatively high sea level despite the dropping tides, particularly around Saturday’s high tide at 11.13.

The Council is urging islanders to be alert to the potential for flying debris, general storm damage and coastal erosion and to take extra care when out and about this weekend.
