Weather Update: Scilly Council Warning After Storm Damage

storm feb 2014The Council says that, following last night’s storm, it has come to their attention that parts of the sea wall below Holgate’s Green and along Town Beach at the Strand have been affected by the waves.

Whilst it is not thought to be in imminent danger of collapse, the forecast for this evening would indicate that further damage is possible, particularly around the high tide at 20.45.

For this reason, they are advising people to stay away from the area, particularly the walkway and directly underneath the wall.

The bank at Porthloo has been also undercut and may be eroded further. The coastal path along Porthmellon could be susceptible to overtopping at high tide, particularly at the far end of the beach, by the steps.

The Council says that care should be taken in these areas.
