Advice Offered On Lowering Energy Bills

hugh town from BuzzaIslanders can get tips on how to lower their energy bills in an advice session tomorrow, Friday.

The Council is bringing over mainland experts who will tell locals how to cut down their consumption.

Some groups, including carers, could be entitled to special tariffs from providers. And there’ll be information on these and other rates.

The event is Scilly’s response to the national Big Energy Saving Week that aims to help consumers check that they are on the best deal, switch tariff or supplier and take up help to insulate their homes.

Visiting Expert Marita Ward says attendees could save anywhere between £10 and around £700 each year.

She says it’s of particular importance here. Scilly is within the top 5 places in the country in “high fuel debt” as we pay over 30p per litre more for heating oil than mainlanders.

And some of our older properties are harder to fit with energy saving measures.

Advice will be on hand between 9.45am and 2.45pm at the Children’s Centre at Carn Thomas.

You’re asked to take a recent electricity bill with you.
