Cross Of St Piran Award For Island Resident

St Mary's Parish Church

St Mary’s Parish Church

A St Mary’s resident is being awarded the Cross of St Piran for outstanding service to the parish churches.

The Cornish silver brooch is given by the Bishop of Truro and is named after the patron saint of Cornwall.

Elizabeth Legg, who lives at Watermill, is being recognised for 60 years service on the Church Council. She is currently Treasurer of all six Anglican churches in Scilly.

Canon Paul Miller describes her financial work as outstanding. She has led the island’s Youth Club as well as the Guides and Brownie groups.

And Elizabeth sang in the choir at the parish church from 1947 until 2011.

The Diocese has organised a service for all those awarded the Cross of St Piran at St. Piran’s Church, Perranzabuloe on March 9th. But it’s hoped a presentation will be arranged on the islands too.

Paul says Elizabeth has contributed to church life for a great number of years and this is a fitting recognition for very long and loyal service.

She is the second Scilly resident to be awarded the cross. Eve Cooper of Tresco received it in 2011.
