Junior Rugby coaches up for an award

Scilly’s most respected sports clubs and players have been revealed as organisers of the 2014 Isles of Scilly Sports Awards announce the final nominations.

There are three finalists for Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Ethan Badcock is named for his cricket playing for the county and being recognised as one of best 12-year-olds in country. Harry Stone won the Welsh judo and National Championships and made the national team. And Maddie Sibley has also been put forward for her all-round contribution to sport.

Coach of the Year finalists are Rob Hughes and Adam May for Junior Rugby, Richard Mills and Ian Sibley for their work with the Sailing Club and Sonia Fletcher and Cath Sherris for their Junior Gigs coaching.

The Sporting Achievement of the Year finalists are Billy Jackman and Dave Mumford for the charity run between the Lizard and Land’s End, Duncan Nichols for his Iron Man challenge and the Women’s gig rowing Veterans crew for their first World Championships win.

This year there is a new category, Sports Club of the Year. In the final is the Judo Club for their competition success. The Aikido Club has also been included for their introduction and development of a new sport on the islands. The Football Club is being singled out after raising £19,000 for local charities with the Sports and Music Festival on the August Bank holiday.

The second awards event is sponsored by Radio Scilly and takes place on February 15th.
