Sandbags will be available to buy from the Council before future bad weather events.

No retail outlets on St Mary’s currently offer them. They were put on sale during the storms earlier this month but councillors had to agree their sale in the future.

Director of Place Craig Dryden told councillors that there was some initial criticism but most people were pleased to be able to buy them.

Council Chairman Amanda Martin told the meeting that the 50p price is considered ‘a steal’ compared to other areas.

The Council holds a stock of the empty bags to protect its own properties.
