Fraser Hicks Shortlisted For National Tourism Superstar Award
Scilly’s Fraser Hicks has made it to the shortlist of the national “Tourism Superstar 2014” awards, just days after he was picked as Scilly’s tourism ambassador.
He is one of just ten nominees from the whole of England and the official announcement has been made in today’s edition of the Daily Mirror.
The St Mary’s boatman will now travel to London in mid-February to be filmed alongside the other nine hopefuls, with the film then featured on the Mirror’s website.
He’ll also attend the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in May.
Fraser was selected for the shortlist by a panel of judges from VisitEngland, who said the standard of all the nominations was extremely high this year.
Islands’ Partnership Coordinator Amanda Pender says Fraser is the perfect choice to represent us because he’s so passionate about the islands and makes our visitors incredibly welcome with his wonderful humour and enthusiasm.
She says everyone knows and loves him and he’s part of the fabric of Scilly.
The Partnership will work closely with Fraser to support him through the next stage, particularly with respect to media and PR.
And Amanda wants to encourage everyone – residents and visitors – to vote for him when public voting starts on 1st March.
Fraser says he’s “surprised and delighted” to be shortlisted and is keen to play his part to ensure more people know just how beautiful and special the islands are.
