Steamship Company Appoints New Chief Executive
The Steamship Company has appointed a new Chief Executive.
Rob Goldsmith has spent most of his career in the aviation sector, rising through the ranks of the Manchester Airport Group since 1992.
He’s served as Managing Director of Humberside Airport, which is part of their group, and at their Australian operations.
His most recent airport management role was as MD at Bournemouth Airport, between 2008 and April 2013.
Rob was put in charge of MAG’s successful bid for Stansted Airport, one of his final acts with the company. They completed that deal in February last year.
His CV claims skills in driving change management and turnaround. He also says that he has a track record in beating profit and loss performance targets.
Steamship Company Chairman Andrew May said Rob’s appointment brings “a great asset to the group,” as the company “plans to meet customers’ expectations during the remainder of this decade, and beyond.”
Andrew thanked outgoing Chief Executive Jeff Marston for his 12-year long contribution to the company. Jeff will be retained as an advisor to the board.
It’s likely that Rob will enjoy an even closer working relationship with the islands’ Council.
Members are likely to discuss the potential for the Steamship Company taking over some management responsibilities for the Council-owned St Mary’s Airport next week.
Rob starts with the Steamship Group on February 4th.
