Scilly’s Postal Staff To Work Until All Christmas Mail Delivered

post office staffSt Mary’s postal staff will work until they have delivered all the outstanding Christmas mail tonight.

That’s the message from postmistress Lindsay Rodger after 70 mile-an-hour winds halted deliveries to Scilly yesterday.

Lindsay has confirmed that the post has arrived this morning and a full team of seven postmen and women will start deliveries as soon as it’s sorted.

Royal Mail bosses confirmed that the amount of post awaiting delivery fills a ‘York’, that’s one of the Royal Mail’s 5-foot high metal cages, which holds ten sacks of mail.

Lindsay says locals have sent their outbound post earlier this year, possibly because of the experience of weather disruption in 2012. There’s very little outbound mail to leave today.

But the amount of online shopping by islanders is noticeable says Lindsay. She estimates that between 30% and 40% of in-bound post comes from Amazon.
