The Council and tourism sector worked together yesterday to make sure locals and visitors could reach Scilly before the onset of today’s bad weather.

Council staff opened the airport to allow flights to land.

And the Star Castle Hotel contacted the 44 people booked in for Christmas breaks there and offered free accommodation for an extra night for everyone who could travel over a day early.

Manager Zoe Parry says they wanted to avoid the worry caused to some guests last year following similar weather disruption.

Zoe says the twelve staff were happy to come in a day early to ensure the guests’ break wasn’t spoiled.
