Scilly Gets Government ‘New Homes Bonus’ Money

hugh town from BuzzaThe government is giving Scilly’s Council £48,000 to fund the building of new homes.

It’s our share of the New Homes Bonus money from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The funding is related to the number of homes that are built, and that’s why Scilly’s payment is in sharp contrast with Cornwall Council’s. They were awarded around £12m.

Council Director of Place Craig Dryden said they are grateful for additional funds from the Government.

But he says the amount is not sufficient to fund any substantial building projects here.

The additional money could be used in combination with other funding opportunities to secure new housing here, he says.

The government says that the Council is free to spend the money as they see fit.
