Islanders To Be Asked To Spring Clean Scilly At Start Of Season

porthcressa beach newIslanders will be encouraged to clean beaches and public spaces at the start of the 2014 season.

Amanda Pender, the manager of Scilly’s tourism body, the Islands’ Partnership, has shared her idea of the ‘Great Scilly Spring Clean’ with the AONB management group meeting.

Amanda sits on that panel and told members that she’s keen to host a community event in the week before Walk Scilly, possibly on April 5th and 6th next year.

Amanda says her home island of Bryher used to arrange a similar clean and she hopes it can be rolled out for all inhabited islands.

Areas which volunteers will be encouraged to spruce up include beaches and quay waiting rooms.

She says it’s “early days” and there’ll need to be discussions with the Council to ensure collected waste can be removed easily.
