Scilly’s Transport And Tourism Bodies Welcome Newquay Midlands Link

Newquay Cornwall airportThe Islands’ airline Skybus has welcomed news that a new direct flight will link Birmingham and Newquay airports each day from May16th next year.

Flybe will operate the 7-day service during the summertime.

Commercial Manager Nick Sanders says the Steamship Group is delighted with the announcement as they have a loyal customer base in the Midlands.

Nick says that Skybus can’t quantify how many passengers do come through Newquay on the FlyBe flights and then transfer to the islands.

But he says it’s “great news” for Scilly and Cornwall.

The Islands Partnership also say it’s positive news.

Amanda Pender told us that improvements in the ability of our existing visitors and particularly first time visitors to get to Scilly can only be welcomed.

The recent survey showed that those visiting Scilly tend to originate from the SW, London and the South, then the North East and Midlands.

Amanda says the Partnership is continually seeking to open up new markets, and Warwickshire and Worcestershire, which are near to Birmingham airport, demonstrate many of the characteristics of our target market.

Newquay airport Managing Director Al Titterington says that the new link with Birmingham also offers easier access for Dubai-based airline Emirates, who operate out of the Midlands airport.
