New Activity Centre For Kids Opens On St Mary’s

A St Mary’s businesswoman has launched a new year-round wet weather attraction for children.

Katie Playle, who also operates daytime childcare provision at Carn Gwavel, has received Local Action Group support for her ‘Kings of the Castle’ business in Old Town.

She’s transformed the interior of the former Crafty Kids building with a bespoke activity centre, featuring slides, ball pits and crawling and climbing challenges on two levels.

Katie says she’s had good feedback from children and parents who can have a coffee or use Wi-Fi while the kids play.

And as a mum, Katie said she wanted to set up a facility that she felt was needed to keep kids amused while giving busy parents a break.

She sent out a survey to parents of under-fives and incorporated their response this into the business planning.

But it’s definitely a case of “use it or lose it.”

Katie says she needs the support of locals to use the new activity centre on a regular basis if it’s going to be a sustainable business.

They haven’t set an age limit, although of the low ceiling in the traditional building means a restriction on height of 4 ft 9 inches will be used.

Katie says she’s received a lot of positive feedback from parents and children so far.

All the best in your new venture; I love the idea of keeping the ‘little darlings’ in cages, much safer than out loose!
