St Mary’s Quay Preparing To Deal With Waste

Islanders are being assured that plans will be put in place at St Mary’s Quay to deal with the waste being moved from Moorwell.

Harbourmaster Dale Clark met this week with the contractors who will remove black bag waste from the refuse site early next year.

The amount, 2,700 tonnes, is more rubbish than Dale had previously expected, and the vessel that will take the material to Cornish landfill sites hasn’t been chosen yet.

Dale is unclear whether quay storage will be needed because he doesn’t know how much the boat will carry.

But he says he has no issue with the waste being moved through the quay.

It’s already used for moving waste from the off-islands and all of the waste will be sealed with a “close eye” kept on it.

The transfer will also stop after March 31st, so most visitors won’t even notice it.
