Santa Making Appearance At School Christmas Market

Five Islands School Christmas Fair_13The biggest fundraiser in the school calendar is taking place today.

The PTFA Christmas Market marks the start of the Christmas period on the islands for many people.

And organiser Jenny Hicks says the School is looking particularly festive this year, with more decorations than they’ve ever had before.

It’s the first time that PTFA Chair Jenny has organised the event and she says she’s been amazed by how much work goes into it.

Jenny says there’ll be plenty of stalls selling homemade gifts and crafts as well as toys.

There’s also a games room and lucky dip stall, as well as a colour-themed raffle.

And there’ll be more Christmas cheer with music from the school band.

The most popular attraction, especially for younger visitors is always a trip to see Santa, who’ll be there this afternoon along with his elf.

The queues tend to be long and Jenny says they did think about introducing a ticket system but felt it would be too complicated.

Instead, they’ll have some activities like colouring, to keep the kids occupied.

The PTFA aren’t raising money for a specific project.

It will go into the general fund to help with unexpected purchases throughout the year, such as equipment or trips to the mainland that aren’t included in the school budget.

Jenny says they’d be very grateful for donations of cakes to sell on the refreshment stall, which can be dropped off at the school. They always go down well, she says, and they can never have enough.

The Christmas Market is taking place today (7th December) from 12.30pm to 3pm at the Five Islands School.
