Support for older members of our community will feature in a public meeting being held by the Council’s Adult Social Care team.

The Elder Care Forum is being held on the 17th December.

Adult Social Care Manager Gareth Peters says it’s an opportunity to hear about the work of his team and the improvements to Park House following a challenging year for the care home.

It’s also a chance to meet new members of staff.

Gareth moved to the islands in September, while new Park House manager Jean Sleigh started last month.

Gareth says there’s a lot planned for social care on the islands next year.

Mental health is high on their agenda and they’re planning to relaunch the local support group.

He says carers will also see their support group relaunched.

Gareth is keen to see better communication with members of the community, and providing more information about their rights and entitlements.

That could include an improved website, although face-to-face meetings are important too, as many older people don’t use the internet,

But what seems like a good idea to us, says Gareth, could be viewed completely differently by the community.

He says the Elder Forum is an opportunity to talk to locals about the plans and get their feedback.

The meeting is being held at the Memory Café at Carn Gwaval from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
