Scilly Named As Area With One Of Biggest Recoveries In House Prices

hugh town from BuzzaScilly has been named as one of only five areas outside London where house prices have returned to pre-2008 levels.

The analysis by surveying firm Countrywide suggests that the housing market in the islands, along with Richmond, Warwick, Cheshire and Cheltenham, may be recovering.

It’s based on Land Registry data, which shows the actual prices paid for properties, rather than those advertised.

But Ian Sibley, from local estate agency Sibley’s Island Homes, says he thinks it might be a statistical blip.

Ian says that house sales in 2013 have definitely been much better than in previous years.

But in his experience, prices here are still below the peak.

He thinks the relatively small numbers of properties sold here doesn’t give a true picture when compared nationally.

Iain says he’s optimistic with the economy picking up, but feels transport problems are still having an effect on sales.
