Council Funds First Aid Course For School Children

st john ambulanceSt John Ambulance will train children at the Five Islands School in first aid techniques after being given a grant from the Council’s Community Fund.

The award of £444 will allow the organisation to run five, one-hour training courses during a day’s visit, each with up to 30 students attending.

They’ll cover how to care for casualties and situations such as choking, heart attacks or severe bleeding.

Chair of Council Amanda Martin said she was happy to fund the project because it sent out the right message to the children.

And Cllr Richard McCarthy said the Council’s Lifelong Learning had also been increasing first aid knowledge in the community with around 78 locals trained this year.

St John Ambulance say having these skills could be the difference between life and death, especially in rural or isolated communities.
