New St Agnes Hall To Open Early Next Year

st-agnes-hall-nov-2013The new St Agnes Hall is likely to open sometime in January or February next year.

The Project board met to discuss progress on Thursday.

Project Trustee Aisling Hick says the original hall, which is being refurbished, is now complete and work is focussing on the new oak-framed extension to the rear.

The builders Dawners, who are based in South Wales, had hoped to complete the work by the end of the year.

She says they’re still well within the timescale of 12 months for completing the work, set by the European Regional Development Fund.

Diana Mompoloki, the Council’s Strategic Investment Manager, says the short delay is down to the challenges of a major construction project on an off-island, which is a new experience for the contractors.

Some small design changes, including the lighting and the roads, have taken place.

The project to rebuild the community hall, including workspaces for new businesses, has been driven by the island’s residents.

They’ve secured over £2 million worth of grants from Europe, the Local Action Group and the Council, as well as raising their own funds towards the work.
