People On Scilly’s Housing List Aren’t Affected By Overcrowding

hugh town from BuzzaThere’s no overcrowding in any of Council’s social housing.

That’s the response provided by the Authority following a Freedom of Information request sent out to all housing authorities in England.

Overcrowding is defined as not being able to provide a separate bedroom for each couple, single adult over 21, two young people of the same sex aged 10 to 20, or two children under 10.

Housing Officer Ian Hamilton says the information came from the Housing Register, which shows there are no applicants that are legally defined as overcrowded here.

But he added that living rooms are taken into account as bedroom spaces.

There are just over 100 council-owned properties in Scilly.
