Student Forum Organising Five Islands School Open Day

school childrenA group of Five Islands School pupils have arranged an open day on Saturday to showcase the range of seventeen out-of-school clubs and activities put on for youngsters.

The event also aims to increase the profile of the school within the wider community.

It’s been arranged by the Student Forum.

Their four executives are Cameron Hicks, Zoe Jenkins, Henry Balkwill-Ruddick and Sam Stephan, who administer the budget for all of the school’s clubs and societies.

Zoe says the forum gives students greater involvement in some decision-making processes than the Student Council, which includes only a single member from each year group.

On Saturday, the pupils will run guided tours of the school and there’ll be demonstrations, talks and stands from each club.

Cameron says it’s a good chance for students to find out what the clubs and societies do, so they can decide whether to get involved.

There’ll also be activities suitable for all ages, such as a bouncy castle, as well as refreshments.

Henry says he didn’t realise there were so many clubs on offer at the school and he thinks locals may be surprised too.

Sam says they’ve been arranging the event for weeks, with help from teacher Mrs Griffiths.

The open day is running from 10am and 3pm on Saturday.
