Islanders funded five Shelterboxes for victims of the Philippines typhoon, in just 2 hours on Saturday.

The tents can house a family of ten for up to six weeks.

Adrian Davies and Murray Hodgson visited the worst-hit city of Tacloban in 2008. And over the weekend, they manned a display of photographs from that trip, opposite the Bishop and Wolf, showing the devastation that’s been caused.

Around sixty islanders gave a total of £2,259 including one local who wrote a cheque for £1,000.

Murray says the amount raised is “spectacular” and, as many of the donations were gift-aided, that effectively adds 5% to the donated cash because of tax relief.

The men hope to repeat the session today, Monday.

    Dear Keri,

Many thanks for your support and please post a huge ‘thank you’ to all those who donated so magnificently.
With another two hours this morning we topped over £3000, not counting the Gift Aid.
It will soon be winging its way to those sorely in need of help.
