Lottery Funding For WI Skills Courses

WI Weathervane 1At least two members of Scilly’s Women’s Institute will be able to attend residential courses at the organisation’s learning centre next year, after a £600 grant from the Scilly Lottery Fund.

Karrie Skaife says they put money away each year to send one member from Scilly to Denman College, the Georgian Manor in Oxfordshire that offers WI members a range of learning sessions including cookery, craftwork and lifestyle.

But the lottery grant means they’ll now be able to pay for a small group to go, probably next autumn at the end of the tourist season.

She says priority will be given to women who haven’t had a chance to attend yet, although she added that there would be no one who wouldn’t want to go.

Karrie attended herself several years ago where she leant willow-weaving techniques. She says it was an amazing course and a very positive experience.

It’s also a chance for WI members to meet other women from around the country.
