Islanders To Raise Funds For Philippines Shelterbox Appeal

murray and sue hodgsonA group of Islanders who visited Tacloban, the Philippine city that was worst hit by Friday’s typhoon, will be fundraising in Hugh Town on Saturday morning.

Murray and Sue Hodgson and Adrian Davis sailed through the region in 2008.

Rotarians in the Philippines offered the party from Scilly a warm welcome, which Murray says he’ll never forget.

He’s tried to call and email them but hasn’t managed to make contact yet.

From 10am on Saturday they’ll be showing pictures of their stay, which document the area before the tragedy and the degree of devastation after the typhoon.

Murray is hoping that islanders will help by donating to the Rotary-backed Shelter Box appeal.

The charity, which started in Cornwall, has always been well supported in Scilly.

They dispatch volunteers to areas hit by natural disasters, handing out crates packed with tents and emergency supplies like trowels and water purification kits.
